Proud to share some good news from the continually up-and-coming New Orleans country-folk scene that’s blossomed from the 9th Ward. Local country soulsters, The Deslondes, hit the stage at the historic and renowned Newport Folk Festival a couple weeks ago following their appearance at Jazzfest in May. The band recently inked a deal with national Americana label New West Records, home of alt-country acts The Old 97s, Drive-by Truckers, Dwight Yoakam, and more.
The Deslondes have close ties to recent NOLA breakout group Hurray for the Riff Raff. Guitarist Sam Doores and bassist Dan Cutler both played on the Hurray for the Riff Raff’s album “Small Town Heroes” and can be seen in the video for “St. Roch Blues.”
The band was named after the street in the lower 9th’s Holy Cross neighborhood where they first began playing together and will return home to in a few weeks.
