On this week’s show, we meet up with the 9th Ward Marching Band, as they get ready for Carnival. Along the Culinary Crossroads, we enjoy a Carnival tradition--King Cake! We visit Cake Café and their new twist on an old tradition: green apple and goat cheese King Cake. As part of a carnival retrospective, we listen to some field recordings from a Mardi Gras Indian practice in December 2005 and reunite with Victor Harris, a Mardi Gras Indian Big Chief who I interviewed 5 years ago, to talk about the resilient Spirit of Fi Yi Yi Mandingo Warrior Mardi Gras Indian Tribe. As for music, it’s just in time for Carnival featuring artists like the Hot 8 Brass Band, Cyril Neville, Monk Boudreaux, and many others.
