The Greater New Orleans Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience is sponsoring a fun event for children to learn about how the brain functions to celebrate Brain Awareness Week. Targeted to 5-to-12-year-olds, this free event will be held at the Children’s Resource Center, 913 Napoleon Avenue. Through a series of interactive activities, a group of volunteer faculty and students from the Neuroscience Programs at the LSU Health Sciences Center and Tulane University will teach children interesting facts about the brain. Activities include: 1) Show and tell of various fixed brains; 2) Show and tell of brain and neuron models; 3) Demonstration with brain slices and stained neurons under a microscope and on a screen; 4) Coloring of brain templates; 5) Making models of brains with play-doh.
