Upcoming Shows

The LPO collaborates once again with The Historic New Orleans Collection to present Concert Spirituel: Saint-Domingue and New Orleans showcasing the musical influence of the Caribbean in Louisiana. The concert will be the 15th edition of Musical Louisiana: America’s Cultural Heritage that resurrects two forgotten sets of music from the 18th century Caribbean.

For “Concert Spirituel: Saint-Domingue and New Orleans,” a selection of songs will highlight the short, brilliant career of Elisabeth “Minette” Ferrand, the first title-role soloist of color in the history of French opera. The concert will also feature a 1763 Mass setting originally designed to be sung for and by enslaved people. Guest conductor Pedro Memelsdorff spent over a decade researching the Messe en cantiques, which has rarely been performed. Guest soloists include Hyngun Cho (continuo cello), Markéta Cukrová (mezzo-soprano), Jean-Christophe Dijoux (harpsichord), Claron McFadden (soprano), Belén Vaquero (soprano), Jonathan Woody (bass baritone) and the OperaCréole choir.
