RECORD RAID BACK IN THE BYWATER FOR PRE-HALLOWEEN RECORD SALE
Music sellers from all over the gulf sell LPs, 45s, CDs and more October 26th atthe Old Ironworks
On October 26th from 11am to 5pm, over 20 vendors will sell records and CDs at the Record Raid: New Orleans' largest record show. This is the second time it will be at the Old Ironworks at 612 Piety street, right across from Pizza Delicious. The Record Raid essentially a musical flea market, with vendors from all over the area selling their wares. Vendors range from private collectors, to DJs, record stores, to people just getting rid of their collection. Happening on the last Saturday before Halloween, buyers can expect sellers to bring out material perfect for your coming Halloween party.
The Record Raid started as a WTUL fundraiser in 2009 and still holds its spring events on Tulane campus. However, past record raids in the marigny and bywater have proven to be wildly successful, with this past July's event being in the Old Ironworks being our biggest yet drawing over 300 music lovers. The volunteer-run event was created and run by Hunter King with help from some of the vendors. The goal has always been to keep it casual and conversational so that people can make friends and talk about the music they find.
Vendors include Euclid Records New Orleans, who were setting up at Record Raids before they moved into their storefront a block away. Chris Edwards is the former proprietor of the now-defunct Magic Bus Records, the beloved record store that started on a bus before it moved to Toulouse. Sometimes appearing is New Orleans' thrift stores' most ubiquitous scavenger Thyron, who always says he's getting out of records but always seems to have some to unload. A frequent seller also includes Keith from Mobile Records in Alabama, an Australia native who often brings garage 45s from his homeland. This mixed crew brings in a wide array of material from rap to jazz to blues, punk, funk, local and beyond.
The record raid is open to the public and all ages are welcome, though a donation of $2 is included. Anyone can sell with advance notice and a small vendor fee that helps cover costs.
