While most of the food action at Jazz Fest is in Food Areas 1 and 2, it's a good idea to study the entire food list in some detail. Do you know where to get a fresh shucked oyster? A Vietnamese spring roll (a.k.a. goi cuon)? PBJs and grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids?
New Food items
Here's what's new this year at Jazz Fest:
Vaucresson's Sausage Company in Food Area 1 adds an Alligator Sausage Po-Boy to go with their Sausage and Crawfish Sausage Po-Boys.
There's also a new food vendor in Food Area 1: Congreso Cubano, who served food at last year's Cultural Exchange Pavilion. Congreso Cubano will be serving:
Adobo de Pescado Frito con Salmarejo (Crispy Marinated Redfish),
Ropa Vieja (Braised Steak),
Frijoles Negros (vegetarian),
Paleta de Café con Leche (Coffee Ice Pop)
This year's Cultural Pavilion celebrates the New Orleans tricentennial with food from Loretta's Authentic Pralines:
Calas (Rice Fritters): Traditional, Sweet Potato, Shrimp
Stuffed Beignets: Lump Crab, Praline, Chocolate
Food Demonstrations
Food at Jazz Fest isn't just about eating. OK, it's mostly about eating, but there are also cooking demonstrations featuring some of the most famous chefs in town, including Susan Spicer, Frank Brigtsen, and Poppy Tooker. Check out the the demonstration schedules for the Food Heritage Stage (inside the grandstand) and Cajun Cabin Stage (outside the grandstand).
