We're amidst the WWOZ fall membership drive, running through Friday, October 27, and that means we've got dozens of amazing live performances coming to your ears and eyes from our studio to celebrate the rich musical heritage of New Orleans and the station that brings it to you. 2) It's starting to get spooky around here! Krewe of Boo hosts their annual Halloween parade on Saturday, October 21. They start rolling at 6:30p.
3) The weather has finally turned and it's fest fest fest. The New Orleans Cochon de Lait Festival will be held this Saturday, October 21 at Palmer Park from 11a-6p. The NOLA Mac'n'Cheese Fest will also be held Saturday at Armstrong Park from 11a-7p. Music includes George Porter, Jr. & the Runnin' Pardners, John Papa Gros with Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, John Boutte, and more.
4) Black Men of Labor will honor the late Deborah "Big Red" Cotton at their annual second line parade this weekend. The club steps out at 2:30p. Get the route sheet and hear the interview at WWOZ's Takin' It To The Streets.
5) If you want to get out of town for awhile, Natchez will be hosting the 32nd annual Great Mississippi River Balloon Race from Friday through Sunday. Events include a ton of hot air balloons, carnival, sports tent, and live music from Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Marc Broussard, Johnny Sansone, Darcy Malone & the Tangle, Flow Tribe, and more.
