Payton is the product of a musical New Orleans family (he's the son of bassist and sousaphonist Walter Payton Jr.; his mother is a classical pianist and has a background as an opera singer).

He began his career at an early age and maturation as a prodigious talent has earned him praise as one of the most important artists of our time.
