On Saturday, September 9, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation will host auditions for new students to join its longstanding free program, the Don "Moose" Jamison Heritage School of Music. The same day, they'll interview prospective students for a new free program for first-time music learners, HSM Beginners.
The Don "Moose" Jamison Heritage School of Music
Ages: 10 to 17
Classes: Saturday mornings (10 am to 1 pm) and Thursday afternoons (5 pm to 7 pm), from September 23 to May 5.
Instruction in: Brass, woodwinds, bass, drums, guitar, piano and voice.
Requirements: At least one year of prior instruction, and audition (returning students do not need to audition).

Instruments: Students must provide their own.

Students interested in the Don "Moose" Jamison Heritage School of Music also may apply to participate in our two affiliated programs: The Jazz & Heritage A Capella Choir and the Jazz & Heritage Brass Band.
HSM Beginners
Ages: 8 to 15
Classes: Tuesday and Thursday afternoons (5 pm to 7 pm), from September 26 to April 19.
Instruction in: Brass, woodwinds, bass, drums, guitar and piano (no voice – singers are encouraged to study piano)
Requirements: No more than one year of prior instruction, and interview (returning students do not need to interview).
Instruments: We provide instruments if needed, subject to availability. Beginners who own instruments are welcome.
Interviews: Saturday, September 9, 1 pm to 3 pm. Register here.
Location:
Classes, auditions and interviews take place at the George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center (1225 N. Rampart Street, New Orleans, LA 70116). Parking is available.
Cost:
All classes are free, but there is a $15 supplies fee for sheet music.
