We are still staying in England by way of R&B and soul singer, the amazing Bettye Lavette. Michigan born and Detroit raised Bettye Lavetteis a soulful powerhouse of a vocalist who has been singing and making music for over 50 years, paying her dues for most of her career, only in the last 10-years or so has Ms. Lavette finally received the accolades she deserves, including an award for best soul blues singer for 2016. I want to focus on a specific album recorded back in 2010, "Interpretations: The British Rock Songbook,"released on Anti records(ahhh. . . the English connection.) The album, inspired by her performance of the Who's "Love Reign O'er Me," at the Kenndy Center Honors, is a collection of some of Englands biggest rock hits as interpreted by Bettye. One of Bettye's greatest attributes, is her ability to take anothers song, get inside of it, and remold it to fit her style of raspy, deep vocals filled with her emotions and power. Bettye tackles, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Moody Blues, Eric Clapton, The Who, and Pink Floyd. Defintely give Bettye Lavette a listen and you will be plesantly surprised.
