2025 Tom Dent Lecture, Wednesday March 12Many of us have stood under the Economy Hall tent at Jazz Fest, but how many of us know the story of the place for which it’s named? The history of "the Carnegie Hall of Jazz" is the topic of this year's Tom Dent lecture, Wednesday, March 12 at the George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center. A discussion among author Fatima Shaik (Economy Hall: The Hidden History of a Free Black Brotherhood), our own David Kunian, Dr. Michael White and others, will delve into the history and enduring legacy of Economy Hall and the brotherhood of free men of color who built it during a tumultuous time in American history. If you can't make it, we'll be streaming video on Facebook and YouTube. |

Recipe: Hot Fire Chicken & BiscuitsThese spicy chicken biscuits are meant to be enjoyed with a cold beverage in hand. They come to us courtesy of Nina Compton, St. Lucian native and Chef/Owner of Compère Lapin in the Warehouse District. Compton adds a Caribbean twist to classic Southern chicken biscuits with Jerk seasoning and allspice. |
