Soul Project

Soul Project NOLA offers up tight grooves and precision arrangements as they rock audiences with groovy funk, blues, and New Orleans soul. Soul Project NOLA is the brainchild of bandleader, guitarist and vocalist Jon Cristian Duque, a protege of the late great Walter “Wolfman” Washington and member of the Roadmasters, who has been at the band’s helm for over twenty years. Duque is joined by fellow Roadmaster alumnus Wayne Moreau on the drums. Moreau, a New Orleans native with over 30 years on the music scene and as a professor at Loyola University, brings the core funk and groove to the Soul Project, along with bassist and Grammy-winning vocalist Wanda Joseph. Joseph came by her funkiness naturally – her dad, Vernell “Joe Gunn” Joseph, was on the drum kit for legends like Irma Thomas and Tommy Ridgely back in the day.  Joseph is a well-respected musician in her own right, earning a 2022 Grammy Award as a member of the Joyful/SONO Choir for their performance on Jon Batiste’s “Freedom” music video, a part of his blockbuster We Are release. The core group of Duque, Moreau, and Joseph are augmented by a stellar roster of New Orleans musicians, including Mike “Mikey B” Burkart on vocals, B3 and keys, David Ludman and Eric Bernhart on sax, and Jake Gold on keys. Soul Project NOLA has toured from coast to coast and Europe, and are a club and festival staple in the Crescent City.
