Volunteer Spotlight: Cathie RuggieroCathie Ruggiero, a New Jersey native, is an organizational guru who has been helping us solve problems behind the scenes since moving to New Orleans from Manhattan in 2009. Cathie is also a WWOZ Gratitude Tech—one of the key volunteers who help us write "Thank you" postcards to OZ members. Her contagious sense of humor makes every challenge feel manageable. Satchmo SummerFest's Seven Days of SatchIt's that time of year again, when New Orleans celebrates the life and legacy of Louis Armstrong on the days around his birthday. For this year, Satchmo SummerFest has announced Seven Days of Satch presented by Chevron--and WWOZ is a part of it. Seven Days of Satch will span an entire week, from Monday July 27 through Sunday August 2. On WWOZ, this means special programming every day on our Traditional Jazz and New Orleans Music shows, as well as a special Satchmo Happy Hour from 5-6 pm on the air every weekday! Plus, Seven Days of Satch will present a full weekend of original online performances by great New Orleans musicians paying tribute to the most famous New Orleans musician ever. |

OnlineWire Virtual Gig CalendarBecause there are no gigs at music venues during the COVID-19 pandemic, we're continuing to run the WWOZ OnlineWire, a calendar of virtual gigs, in the place of the regular WWOZ Livewire. Performances happen on a variety of platforms, mostly social media. We're sharing links when and where we can. Many musicians are offering digital "tip jars" via Venmo or other payment systems during these sets. You can stay in and support live, local music! |

Recipe: Chicken with Orange-Ginger GlazeThis is an old-school version of fusion cuisine, with its roots in Jamaica's Chinese community. It has a sweet-savory Asian flavor profile, with a big hit of Caribbean heat. It includes a number of characteristic Jamaican ingredients like allspice, thyme, ginger, and scotch bonnet (habanero) peppers, all combined with a classic Chinese orange/soy combination. And truth be told, it's more of a thick sweet sauce than a true glaze. |
