James Andrews & the Crescent City All-Stars at WWOZ

James Andrews & the Crescent City All Stars were among the recent visitors to our Gia Maione Prima Foundation Performance Studio (see below for several more). Video: Jazz & Heritage Foundation's Allison Miner Lecture Series

When second liners dance, they're doing more than showing off fancy footwork. They might be building community, catching the spirit, fighting for freedom, or claiming home. Such is the point of view offered in Rachel Carrico’s book, Dancing the Politics of Pleasure at the New Orleans Second Line. Carrico's Allison Miner Lecture shares stories and reflections on the lives of the people the book celebrates. The Allison Miner Series is an initiative of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation Archive to highlight research, scholarship, and projects that utilize the historic collection.

Show Host Profile: Hazel, Delta Rambler & Original OZilian

Happy birthday to longtime 'OZ show host Hazel Schlueter, AKA the Delta Rambler, who celebrates her birthday on December 3, a day before the station's. Hazel and her husband Larry are original OZilians, having attended the first volunteer meeting for the fledgling station in 1980. Born and raised in New Orleans, music was always front and center in Hazel's life. "My favorite part of school was singing!" As the leader of the Delta Ramblers, Hazel has been performing the old time country and bluegrass music she loves since 1977. "I love WWOZ! And I feel very privileged that they let me make all these shows." You can hear those shows on Sundays, 10am-NOON. Happy birthday, Hazel, and thank you for all of it!

Recipe: BBQ Shrimp & Beef Meatballs Pistolettes

Move over sandwiches, and make room for a Louisiana pistolette: a Cajun stuffed shrimp and meatball roll! The combination of flavors will impress your guests at your next gathering; this is the kind of "big batch" recipe that serves a crowd. Thanks to Executive Chef Marcus Woodham of the Bower on Magazine St in the Lower Garden District.
