Volunteer Profile: Cole Williams

It’s a big, broad tent that WWOZ show host Cole Williams pitches every Tuesday from 11am to 2pm on the New Orleans Music Show. She welcomes all humanitarians to join her in exploring the city’s many musical traditions. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Cole was an accomplished professional musician and community organizer when she arrived in New Orleans in 2015. After volunteering at the station and subbing as a show host, she started her current show in 2017. "Being a musician and a show host, I’m in this beautiful sweet spot. It’s a privilege, it’s a responsibility, it’s an honor. And it’s fun!" You can hear Cole perform on the first Friday of each month at her residency, The Living Room Sessions, at Buffa’s. Want to be inspired? Read more in the profile linked below about Cole, and about her organization, The Greater New Orleans Citizens Relief Team, and its efforts to "House The Houseless".

Oysters with Tropical Mignonette

Recipe: Alma Oysters with Tropical Mignonette

This mignonette (a vibrant sauce made with vinegar & shallots that's sprinkled on top of oysters) recipe comes to us from Executive Chef/Owner Melissa Araujo of Alma Cafe in the Bywater. It's a recipe to which she has a personal connection "because it has all the ingredients and tastes of the Honduran coast". It also uses Steen's cane syrup, from Abbeville, LA on the banks of Bayou Vermilion.
