Troy Sawyer, the winner of the Outstanding Millennial Award for Music in 2013 presented by OffBeat Magazine, is an accomplished trumpeter, composer and educator from New Orleans. He is continuing the legacy of his great grandfather, Louis James, who played strings in various of Louis Armstrong’s bands and co-wrote songs with Buddy Bolden. Through hard work and inspiration, Sawyer has made a name in music both at home and abroad.

Calvin A. Johnson, Jr., is a saxophonist, composer and bandleader born and raised in New Orleans. His paternal grandfather, George Augustus “Son” Johnson, was a musician who led WPA bands during the Great Depression and taught musicians at the Grumswald School of Music in New Orleans. Son Johnson and Mrs. Johnson gave birth to 11 children, of whom four had illustrious careers in music. Johnson cites his longtime mentor Edward “Kidd” Jordan – with whom he studied at the Jazz & Heritage Foundation’s Heritage School of Music – as a major influence.
