Food, Fun and Freedom: Dancing Grounds “The Cookout” Celebrates Juneteenth

(New Orleans, LA)– Dancing Grounds (DG), a leading 501(c)3 Black feminist-led, multigenerational dance studio, rooted in wellness and social change, is thrilled to host The Cookout: A Juneteenth Celebration for Black Liberation on June 15, 2024 from 12pm to 5pm at the St.Claude Arts Part at 6707 St Claude Ave in Old Arabi. This free community event will honor the rich traditions of Southern Black gatherings and commemorate Juneteenth, a pivotal moment in American history marking the beginning of the end of slavery in the United States. "It’s more than just a party," says Jasmin Simmons-Edmond, Creative Director and Co-Leader at Dancing Grounds. "It's a full-on freedom fest with moments to move your body, nourish your soul, and connect with your community as we celebrate what liberation looks like for Black people of this city”. Attendees can expect an afternoon filled with: -Live DJ and Dance Performances -Delicious Food from Local Vendors -Mindfulness Activities and Engagements -A Safe and Inclusive Space for BIPOC Community Members "We encourage everyone to join us for this joyful celebration of Black freedom and culture," says Kendra Unique, Operations Director and Co-Leader. "Together, we can honor our past and build a brighter future."
