(New Orleans, LA) – Dancing Grounds (DG) and Contemporary Arts Center present the 2024 Dance for Social Change (DSC) Festival, Rhythms of Recovery: The Pathways from Coping to Healing for New Orleans Youth. The festival is a two-day event, led by New Orleans youth, that serves as the culmination of the DSC Teen Company’s year of analyzing how violence impacts young people and the differences between coping and healing from violence. The DSC Teen Company will also premiere its new multi-disciplinary work, Rhythms of Recovery, that speaks on how New Orleans youth envision healing for themselves, their families, and their communities.Our youth are harnessing the strength of creativity and shared voice, beginning a journey of empowerment and healing through the arts. DSC is supported by prominent local institutions working together to lift the creative talents of New Orleans youth, including the New Orleans Tourism and Cultural Fund, The Helis Foundation, and many more. Festival events will engage dozens of teens citywide as audience members and participating artists. DSC Festival Events Schedule May 16, 6-10:30 pm- Performance Premiere with a patron party at 6 pm Film, Performance, Panel, and Party May 18, 9-3 pm: Family Day, a day to celebrate the youth, enjoy wellness resources, and take FREE classes.
