January 6 was the beginning of the 2022 Carnival season in New Orleans and also the 610th birthday of Joan of Arc. Last year, Jeanne d'Arc parade in the French Quarter was canceled but this year, the Krewe de Jeanne d'Arc held their annual procession, and Joan's sword was blessed at St. Louis Cathedral. The theme this year is "Be Gone Foul Plague!"
