WWOZ sends belated birthday greetings to "Mean" Willie Green, who was the Neville Brothers' drummer for over 30 years.

Cyril Neville wrote "Screaming and shouting happy birthday to my brother from another mother "Mean" Willie Green! Some people used to say the Neville Brothers were the heartbeat of New Orleans! Well, Mean Willie Green was the heartbeat of the Neville Brothers band! The times we shared on the bus and on stages around the world are among my fondest memories! I’m forever grateful for the Friendship, Love and Genuine Respect that was the basis for our relationship as band mates! When you and I played it was like we became one! It was pure magic every time we shared a solo! In my estimation you are one of the most innovative drummers New Orleans has ever given to the rest of the world, and I know it was a blessing getting to play with you all the years we were a band! And I’m glad to be able to let the world know how I feel about you while you’re still here! Much Love and Respect!"
