The Deslondes: less honkin' and more tonkin' as they put it in their new album, The Deslondes, out now on New West Records. Signed to the Austin/Atlanta/LA-based Americana label last year, the five-piece released their full-length debut in early June after a whirlwind year of touring (including a lengthy set of dates with the Old Crow Medicine Show) that brought national attention from NPR, Pitchfork, and Rolling Stone.
NPR jumped to share the album in their "First Listen" series before its official release date, and highlighted the band's ties to mid-20th century folk music, particularly Woody Guthrie, as well as more contemporary artists like George Jones and friends/tourmates/fellow New Orleanians Hurray for the Riff Raff, in their preview.
The new album runs the gamut from folk to blues to country to rock'n'roll, all while staying under the Americana umbrella. Refreshing about the Deslondes, though, is that unlike many of today's Americana acts, there's nothing put on or false about them. What you see is what you get with these hardworking fellas of the Lower 9.
The Deslondes is available on CD, vinyl, and MP3.
