If you listen to WWOZ's Morning Set , you crave good music in the morning. Oak
Street cafe used to be one of the only places in town serving live music
with breakfast. It has recently been taken over by former staff
members, and is now the Live Oak Cafe. Charles Farmer, longtime house
piano man for the old cafe has stayed on playing for the past 6 months
and helped keep the tunes alive in the new spot. After 8 years, Charles
is moving on, and this week they are launching a new music schedule.
This week:
Today (July 1) : Ethan Stern on stride piano
Wed: The Blue Trees - southern soul/rock
Thurs: Mark Weliky- gyspy jazz
Fri: Americana morning with Acoustic Mafia
Sat: Jenna McSwain trio
Sun: Dave Easley and James Singleton
Next week the Katarina Boudreaux (mon, tues) , les Syncopators de Bayou
(wed) and Dry County Whiskey featuring Mikey B Bukart (thurs and fri)
will be getting back to regular weekday gigs. Weekends will be about
mixing it up with different acts each Saturday and Sunday. Look for
Live Oak on the live wire. Whether you come for food and stay for
music, or the other way around - it will be guaranteed good times!
