Lena Prima dazzled the Food Heritage stage in the Grandstand today as she prepared her own meatball recipe for crowd. Lena - the daughter of New Orleans' legendary jazz singer Loius Prima - donated this recipe to WWOZ's cookbook That Sounds Good!
Last night she prepared two crockpots worth of her delicous turkey meatballs and organic tomato sauce, then brought all of the goods down to The Fest to to show us how it's done. Lena sang a few numbers while mixing and shaping. The secret: two kinds of breadcrumbs, one soaked in milk before being mixed into the ground turkey, and another to roll the meatballs in before baking them!
If you missed Lena at the Food Heritage stage today, you can catch her at the Carousel Lounge in the Hotel Monteleone this Saturday and Sunday.
