On Thursday, April 21st, Jelly Roll Justice will have as special guests on "Jazz From the Market", the great jazz educator Mr. Carl Blouin, Sr. and one of his former students, trumpeter extraordinaire Leroy Jones.
Precisely sixty years ago St. Augustine High School was established in New Orleans and soon became one of the premier educational institutions in the United States. It is famous for its academic, sport and musical programs. St. Augustine alumni have become community leaders, educators, businessmen, artists, and world class athletes.
Musically, St. Augustine is renowned for its "Marching 100" Purple Knights Band that has played in the Rose Parade in Pasadena and the Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C., and countless Mardi Gras parades.
"St. Aug", as it is affectionately known, also has the distinction of producing a staggering number of brilliant jazz musicians, educators, composers, arrangers and band leaders who performed in its Concert and Jazz Band Program.

These Purple Knights have written, arranged and produced music for Hollywood movies. Some have performed with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, others have toured the world spreading our music. Still others have become excellent educators. Regardless of where they might be, they all talk glowingly of Mr. Blouin and their music experience at their alma mater.
