Legendary counterculture figure John Sinclair died today at the age of 82. In addition to his many accomplishments listed elsewhere, he was a major fixture at WWOZ for many years.
From his arrival in New Orleans in 1992 to his departure for Amsterdam in 2003, he was active and very involved in all aspects of WWOZ, both on and off the air. For years he hosted the New Orleans Music Show on Wednesdays from 11am-2pm, and then a late Saturday night shift from 2-5am. He was also instrumental in the earliest WWOZ live performance broadcasts from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and in producing WWOZ's series of live music CDs.
Our thoughts and best wishes go out to all who knew him, in New Orleans and around the world.
