"SARE-ee" Likes: singing in the car, dancing in the rain, and rollerskating in the park to James Brown. Dislikes: runny egg yolks, questions in bad faith, and loudness over 100 decibels. Known for a voice that oscillates from smoky-sweet soft to big-hearted belt and back again, New Jersey-born vocalist, songwriter, and musician Sari Jordan (they/she) spends their days and nights loving and learning in New Orleans. Sari released their debut EP Sing to the Moon in October 2023, a collection of original compositions that reflect nascent ruminations with subtle confidence and ample whimsy. Upon sinking into the sounds and culture of New Orleans, Sari Jordan found the kind of freedom that she needed, and artistically began to bloom. An embryonic heartbreak catapulted her into performing her original music for the first time; the former couple was slated to play together, on Valentines' Day. In the wake of the romantic fissure, Sari kept the gig and unveiled a solo set. Characterized by raw honesty and a playful boldness, Sari's voice commandeers ears with a confident, stated presence. Debut EP Sing to the Moon features a tasting menu of original music essentially ripped from diary entries over the past couple of years. The project is an amalgamation of Sari’s kaleidoscopic influences, embodying elements of Lianne La Havas, Phoebe Bridgers, Billie Holiday, Nai Palm of Hiatus Kaiyote, and Billie Eilish, in a succulent gumbo with Sari's own gossamer, angelic style. The sum of these parts delivers a tender, folky alt-jazz that aims an arrow directly at the heart. Each song affectionate and intentional, a cocktail of warmth, depth, and unfettered brightness. Nowadays, Sari can be found out and about singing songbook standards with their own flair, leading their artist project, and singing harmonies with local legends Billy Iuso, Isaac Eady, and Anna Moss. bio by B.
