Mia X is a mother, recording artist, actress, best-selling author, philanthropist and cook from New Orleans, Louisiana. Born Mia Young, the self-described “Biggest Mama Mia” was raised in the Lafitte Housing Project and began her music career in 1984, at age 14, when she joined her childhood friend DJ Mannie Fresh, DJ Wop, and Denny D and became the female emcee in the pioneering local hip-hop crew New York Incorporated. The group was extremely popular locally and hosted many concerts and dances around the city. Mia X went on to sign with Master P’s No Limit Records, where she released three solo albums, including 1998’s “Mama Drama,” which hit No. 7 on the Billboard 200 chart. She co-wrote the hit singles “I’m Bout It” and “Bout it All.” During her stint at No Limit, Mia X released three solo albums and contributed to many others, totaling about 75 million records sold worldwide. Mia X spent the next few years enjoying successes on several other labels before taking a break from the industry during the 2000s.
