The Electrifying Crown Seekers

The Electrifying Crown Seekers are a gospel group from Marrero, Louisiana with stomping rock sounds (once referred to as “garage rock gospel”) and vocal harmonies in the style of the Blind Boys of Alabama and the Dixie Hummingbirds. The group has brought their praise music to audiences throughout the United States and abroad, and are long-time favorites in the Gospel Tent at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Now over 50 years old, the Crown Seekers anchored a vibrant New Orleans gospel scene for many years, led by the superlative blues-rock guitarist James Williams, who died in April, 2020. Their high-quality performances continue, however, with Williams’ extended family, including the dynamic Stanley Williams, and other long-time members of the group continuing the legacy. The Electrifying Crown Seekers were featured in the 2013 documentary film By and By: New Orleans Gospel at the Crossroads.
