Wandering as near to the PlayStation/Billboard Stage as I could, I caught the gypsy-punk superband Gogol Bordello. Although I had to watch mostly from the giant screen above the stage, I could hear the band's thumping presence easily from right in front of the sound tent. This band is one of the highest-energy acts around, and they had the entire enormous crowd into it with big blue balls bouncing around in front of the stage. After they concluded one song, the bandleader bellowed through the microphone: "Don't wait for some group of activists in a faraway land to do something... Educate thy neighbor!" I couldn't agree more.

Was told by a friend in london on about the band. Checked out the show and was not disappointed.
Now the envy of quite a few here in london!

I love Gogol Bordello! I saw them in NYC last New Years, and I was hooked. They put on one of the most eclectic, fun live shows of any band working today. There's also a marvelous literary bent to their music. For example, the song "Wonderlust King" calls to mind the wanderlust that is the subject of so many European novels of the 19th Century. That's what I love about people from the former USSR: fiction is so important to them. Gogol Bordello even lists their favorite books and writers on their website. That's not to say they're boring though: their gypsy punk music is all about drinking, dancing, and meeting people from strange places.
