WWOZ and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation invite you to join us in a Community Day of Service, helping to gut houses for victims of the recent floods in the Baton Rouge area.

On Saturday, September 24, we hope to have at least 100 volunteers doing the dirty work of removing Sheetrock and other debris from private homes, schools and other affected buildings.

If you’re willing and able to roll up your sleeves and go with us to help those in need, please register to volunteer:

Our partners in the Community Day of Service are the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana and St. Anna’s Episcopal Church in New Orleans.

On September 24, volunteers will meet for an orientation and safety briefing at 7:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (6249 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124). We then will take our own vehicles to the work sites, which are located in the Denham Springs area and in West Feliciana Parish.

Work crews will be on the job from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Volunteers should wear sturdy clothes with closed-toe shoes, and to bring work gloves, a hat, sunscreen, bug spray and food and water for the day.

All volunteers will be required to sign a waiver absolving WWOZ and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation from any liability in the event of injury or loss/damage to personal property.

We also need at least five Team Leaders, who will be asked to attend a safety workshop several days prior to the volunteer work day.  If you are interested in being a Team Leader, please check the appropriate box on the sign-up form.

If you are interested in carpooling – or driving a carpool – please check the appropriate boxes on the sign-up form.

This Community Day of Service is a program of WWOZ, New Orleans’ Jazz & Heritage radio station, and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation.

For additional information, please e-mail programs@jazzandheritage.org.

Thank you for your service to our community.

If you can't make it on the 24th but still want to help, check out our Flood Relief page for additional volunteer opportunities and resources for those affected by the flooding.
