Join me Monday, August 30th on Jazz from the French Market as we look back on the musical presence of Clyde Kerr Jr. who passed away several weeks ago. We'll talk in-studio with Jonathan Bloom, Education Coordinator for the Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz at Loyola University, about the musical education legacy of Mr. Kerr. We'll hear from Mr. Kerr's CD "This is Now," as well as the music of other New Orleans born and grown musicians such as Nicholas Payton, Christian Scott, Wynton Marsalis and Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews. This show segment was postponed from last week due to scheduling conflicts.
We'll also be featuring new music from Esperanza Spalding, the Marsalis family and what's new in Charlie B's mailbox. Last week just before the show I pulled trumpeter Jim Rotondi's new CD "1000 Rainbows" from the mailbox, and since then new CDs (among them Larry Goldings and Harry Allen's "When Larry Met Harry") have arrived.
We'll also have tracks from Charlie Parker whose birthday is August 29th and Horace Silver whose birth is September 2nd. And don't forget, settle down for the start of our third hour for some jazz organ on Charlie B's Orjazzm.
The show is from 4-7p.m. CDT on WWOZ 90.7 FM and WWOZ.ORG.
