1) New Orleans Oyster Festival hits Woldenberg Park this Saturday and Sunday. Free admission, oysters in just about every form, and great music by the riverfront. Performers include Flow Tribe, Bonerama, Luke Winslow King, and Brass-A-Holics.

2) Birdfoot Festival continues through Sunday, June 4. This one is for folks looking for something a bit different out of their festival experience-- Birdfoot is chamber music with a New Orleans flavor, conducted at historic venues throughout the greater New Orleans area. Check out these photo and audio highlights from Birdfoot 2015 from photographer Ryan Hodgson-Rigsbee.

3) If you still haven't seen Big Charity, here's another chance-- a screening will be held at Cafe Istanbul on Wednesday, June 7 at 7p. This documentary investigates the circumstances surrounding the closing of America's oldest hospital for the sake of progress. Check out the trailer below.

4) "Plessy Day: 125 Years of Resistance and Achievement" comes to the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old U.S. Mint on Wednesday, June 7 from 6-8p. The landmark Plessy v. Ferguson Supreme Court case established the "separate but equal" doctrine that dominated race relations in the United States for most of the 20th century. The event will include a presentation by Keith Plessy, a descendant of plaintiff Homer A. Plessy. Music will be provided by the Carl LeBlanc Band and a panel discussion on "The Emergence of Jazz in the Homer Plessy Era" will include input from Dr. Michael White, Dr. Brice Miller, Freddi Evans, and Professor Jesse McBride.

5) A couple of WWOZ programming highlights this week, in case you missed them: a new short feature on Latinos in New Orleans from our video team and two familiar voices returned to our airwaves-- hear George Ingmire on Thursday evenings from 7-10p and Dave Dauterive on Friday mornings from 6-9a. If you'd like to hear their first shows in new timeslots, listen back on our 2-week archive
