For this August, we share two cool drink recipes from our cookbook, That Sounds Good! First up, it's Rock Star Drink from Glen David Andrews, which combines apple and ginger into a crisp cool libation. And Randy Fertel contributes the Mango Rumba, which uses WWOZ Mango Freeze.
Rock Star Drink
1/2 ounce (1 table spoon) Ginger Syrup (see below)
2/3 glass of sparkling cider
1/3 glass ginger beer
Apple slice, ginger slice or crystallized ginger for garnish
Ice
Combine the ginger syrup, cider, ginger beer and ice in a tall glass. Makes 1 serving.
Ginger Syrup
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
A 4-inch piece of ginger, peeled and chopped
Combine the ingredients in a saucepan. Simmer for 45 minutes. Let cool, then strain. For more intense flavor, steep overnight before straining.
Mango Rumba
2 ounces light or dark rum
8 ounces lemonade
1 scoop Mango Freeze (substitute mango sorbet)
Combine the rum, lemonade, and Mango Freeze in a glass. Makes 1 serving.
