Dear Listener,
We used to have a calendar, but now we use a map. A cycle that now turns furiously faster and further than ever on the wheels of our two mobile broadcast trucks — whirling non-stop from the Bayou Boogaloo to the Telluride Jazz Celebration, from the Creole Tomato Festival to Bonnaroo.
Why does WWOZ go on the road for these remote live broadcasts? It's our relentless support of live music, in our desire to showcase the likes of Dr. John, the Nevilles, George Porter, Henry Butler, Trombone Shorty, the Dirty Dozen, Wolfman, Big Sam — at their most spontaneous, creative New Orleans best, direct from festivals and clubs around the world. It's our desire to help publicize these remote outposts that give our musicians work and additional audiences. It's our commitment to deliver to our listeners a multitude of magical memories and to spend time with all those who have New Orleans in their heart. We find them everywhere — Detroit, California, the Virgin Islands — everywhere.
But most importantly, we are driven by our passion for music that is alive, that lives in a way that studio productions usually don't — music that pulses to the throngs of people crowded around a performance stage, their enthusiasm, their vocal response, their dancing. And if you can't be there this time, we want to encourage you to come out to the next one, or at least to travel vicariously through the WWOZ live broadcast and live blog coverage of the next event!
Yours in keeping it alive,
David Freedman
General Manager
Street Talk — Teen Radio Producers
"Listen Up, New Orleans": during the weeks of June 19 - 25 and July 3 - 9, Street Talk will be airing the works of two teen radio producers, Kadija Garner and James Oliver. These stories are the product of a project called "Listen Up, New Orleans," funded by the Arts Council of New Orleans and housed at the Lafayette Charter Academy.
Over the course of the last six months, Kadija and James have attended a weekly radio class where they listened to teen-produced radio stories, learned the art of interviewing, and eventually produced stories on topics of their own choosing. The class began with 6 seventh graders, and only Kadija and James have made it to the finish line.
WWOZ Street Talk is an audio cultural news service. On the air and on the web, Street Talk addresses issues vital to New Orleans' cultural rebuilding.

July Festivals and Community Events
Most of the festivals in July center around the Fourth of July holiday. Many towns and cities around New Orleans have their annual Fourth of July celebrations, and New Orleans holds its own at Woldenberg Park, along the river in the French Quarter. Don't forget about the Essence Festival held from Friday the 4th to Sunday the 6th. It's held at the Superdome, and one can't underestimate its impact on New Orleans.

Telluride — Creole Tomato Festival — Bonnaroo
The traveling 'OZ broadcast krewe have been doin' some heavy traveling in the last month. We started in the city over Memorial Day weekend at the Bayou St. John for the Bayou Boogaloo.
Then we were up in the mountains of Colorado for the Telluride Jazz Celebration, where we broadcast some awesome jazz along with two New Orleans icons, Dr. John and the Neville Brothers. Take a look at the beautiful scenery from Telluride on our blog.
Next we went to the Bonnaroo Music Festival in the middle of Tennessee. At Bonnaroo, we pitched a tent and served up some great New Orleans music. Only WWOZ can be two places at once — during our live broadcasts from Bonnaroo, we were also broadcasting from the Creole Tomato Festival in the French Market.
