It runs through January 31. |

Volunteer Spotlight: Beth CohenBeth Cohen is WWOZ’s new fall intern from Loyola University. She's a junior majoring in Music Industry Studies and minoring in Business Administration. Beth discovered WWOZ in 2016 while visiting New Orleans from her hometown of Newbury Park, CA. Speaking of her experience at WWOZ, Beth says, "I learned about music I never knew!" Beth also feels that her internship at the station has been like a study abroad because of the diversity in the programming. |

Show Host Spotlight: The GovGerald Rigney, host of our Monday night Kitchen Sink show for 31 years and better known to one and all as "The Gov," is full of good cheer and great stories. He recalls a concert that took place in late May of 1980 at Jimmy’s Music Club to help get 'OZ on the air. James Booker and Professor Longhair performed, and the Neville Brothers played two sets. Seven months later, The Gov happened to be fiddling with his radio dial, and, to his delight, there flowed the sounds of the new WWOZ! He made his way over to Tipitina’s where the station was operating and began to volunteer. He subbed for Billy Delle (Records from the Crypt) and for other hosts until the Brock Brothers convinced him to take over the Monday night Kitchen Sink show in July 1988. "It was a sales pitch I couldn’t refuse!" laughs The Gov. |

Treme Creole Gumbo Fest, November 17-18The Treme Creole Gumbo Fest returns to Armstrong Park on Saturday, November 17 and Sunday, November 18 from 11a-7:30p both days. This festival is billed as New Orleans premiere brass band showcase, a fact the music lineup definitely reflects. Admission is free. This year's Treme Creole Gumbo Festival is dedicated to the memory of Travis "Trumpet Black" Hill, a beloved New Orleans musician who died suddenly from medical complications in 2015. He was only 28 years old. |

Gumbo Recipes for NovemberEach November, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation celebrates Louisiana's most iconic food with the Treme Creole Gumbo Festival (see above). Emerging from 18th century Louisiana, gumbo's evolution was shaped by African, French, Spanish, Native American, Caribbean and German influences. It truly symbolizes the melting-pot nature of New Orleans. Here, we reprise several different kinds of gumbo from our collected recipes. Of course, these only scratch the surface of contemporary varieties. |
