Meet WWOZ's New General ManagerToday, June 1, WWOZ welcomes our new General Manager: Beth Arroyo Utterback, former Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer at WYES-TV (PBS) in New Orleans. In her own words, she's "thrilled to be entrusted with this incredible opportunity to lead WWOZ as we expand our mission to be the worldwide voice, archive, and flag-bearer of New Orleans culture and musical heritage." |
|
Program Schedule Update: New ShowsYou can hear George Ingmire and his new show called 9-Volt Heart every Thursday from 7-10p. George is one of our most experienced show hosts and producers, and has been involved with WWOZ in various capacities for many years. Dave Dauterive will take over the Friday edition of the Morning Set weekly from 6-9a. Dave has been volunteering with WWOZ since 2001 as a substitute host, phone volunteer, on-air pitching during fund drive, Jazz Fest broadcaster, and more. He grew up in the New Orleans area and has over two decades of radio experience. |

Wrapping Up Second Line SeasonThe 2016-2017 Second Line Season ends later this month with two parades. The Perfect Gentlemen Father's Day Parade happens on Sunday, June 18, and the Uptown Swingers Second Line Parade a week later on June 25. Once the route sheets are set, we'll have them on our Takin' It to the Streets page. And check out Action Jackson's interviews with leaders of the SA&PC and Mardi Gras Indian communities. |

Summer Festivals & FunOne of the great myths about life in New Orleans is the existence of something called "Festival Season" which, post-Jazz Fest, is technically over. In reality, it's always festival season in south Lousiana, a fact evinced by our copious listing of summertime music festivals and other diversions in and around New Orleans. Don't let the hot weather slow you down! Two festivals to note in particular: the French Market's Creole Tomato Festival, June 10-11, and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation's Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival, June 24-25. |

Hospitality Tent Thank-yousThe WWOZ Hospitality Tent would like to thank volunteers, Brass Passers, and all Guardians of the Groove for an exciting and successful Jazz Fest season. It was great to see old and new faces in the tent! You should know that your support of WWOZ went beyond the station and beyond Jazz Fest grounds. This year, WWOZ’s Hospitality Tent was able to give over 550lbs of fruit to grassroots and non-profit organizations. The fruit was delivered to groups that prepare food daily or weekly for those in need of a meal in New Orleans. We here at WWOZ look forward to working with you every year to make this another great tradition. Stay Groovin’ and stay tuned. |

100 Great Photos from Jazz Fest 2017WWOZ's volunteer photographers - always a formidably talented group - outdid themselves at last month's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The proof is in our photo albums, from which we assembled this collection of 100 beautiful, dynamic shots from the 2017 edition of the world's greatest music festival. |

Recipe: Lemon Meringue Pie from Walter "Wolfman" WashingtonIt's June, which means high summer. For a cool bite, it's hard to beat a sweet, tart lemon meringue pie strait from the refrigerator. This version of the recipe was contributed by Walter "Wolfman" Washington to That Sounds Good, our collection of recipes by New Orleans musicians. |
