Brass bands, Mardi Gras Indians, New Orleans funk and African dance – they’re all part of the mix at the 10th annual Congo Square Rhythms Festival, presented by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation on March 18-19 in Armstrong Park. Acts include The Rebirth Brass Band, Corey Henry & the Treme Funktet, Erica Falls, New York’s Bombazo Dance Co, and a shout-out to old-school funk, with WWOZ's own DJ Soul Sister. Plus, it's free. |

The WWOZ video team has been on the street all Carnival season. Check out the scenes they captured from this year's parades, including Joan of Arc, Barkus, 'tit Rex, Red Beans, Pete Fountain’s Half-Fast Walking Club, Society of St. Anne, and MUCH more. |
St. Joseph's Night and Super Sunday 2017
|
St. Joseph's Night and Uptown Super Sunday come this year on Saturday, March 19. On St. Joseph's Night, the Indians will be out in the neighborhoods across the city participating in rituals with long histories. They can usually be found under the Claiborne bridge, at A.L. Davis Park, and other spots at various times throughout the night. Learn more about St. Joseph's Night and some of the history behind it at the link and check out photos from recent St. Joseph's Nights, 2012-2016, at the link below. |
We're All-Encrypted
|
If you take a look at our URLs when you visit WWOZ.org, you'll notice that they're all encrypted (i.e., they all begin with https:// instead of http://), even our streams. We made the decision to go all-encrypted to help make a safer web for everyone: bidirectional encryption and authentication helps promote security across the web. |

As noted above, St Joseph's Day happens this month (March 19), which puts us in an Italian-American frame of mind. There's probably no more iconic Italian-American dish from than meatballs and marinara. It's also Billy Iuso's contribution to That Sounds Good: A Cookbook Celebrating 30 Years of WWOZ. |
