Twelfth Night Live Broadcast: Monk Boudreau
More Live Broadcasts
In addition to Twelfth Night, we're planning two more live broadcasts this January. In celebration of Danny Barker’s birthday, Detroit Brooks, Gregg Stafford, Topsy Chapman, and more will perform on January 12 at Snug Harbor as part of the annual Danny Barker Festival. The next evening, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation's annual celebration of MLK Day, titled "Jazz & the Civil Rights Movement," happens at Dillard University's Lawless Memorial Chapel and features soul-jazz saxophonist Houston Person. |
Our Show Hosts' Favorite Recordings of 2016
2016 was a great year in new music. Our show hosts, one of the world's great collective repositories of musical knowledge, taste, and passion, have made lists of their favorite recordings of the year. So before we get too far into 2017, take a look back and see what you might have missed. |
Meet the Staff: Marietta Goodman, Office Manager
Marietta Goodman joined WWOZ as Office Manager in November 2016. Marietta, who has over fifteen years of office management experience, grew up in Uptown New Orleans and graduated from Walter L. Cohen, Sr. High. "The music WWOZ plays has an effect on so many lives locally and those far away," she says. "It's especially inspiring to see the enthusiasm and love ... for the station." |
Marcus Roberts at the Jazz & Heritage Center January 28
On January 28, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation presents a very special concert featuring the legendary jazz pianist Marcus Roberts and his band, the Modern Jazz Generation. This show happens at the Jazz & Heritage Center on North Rampart. Admission is free. |
Recipe: Paul Longstreth's Daily Bread
This recipe is Paul Longstreth's contribution to WWOZ's cookbook, That Sounds Good. Per Longstreth: "It's very similar to a recipe my mother used when, every Sunday morning, she'd wake up early and bake the 'Daily Bread' for Holy Communion during my father's church service. It's ... the perfect complement to WWOZ on a Sunday—or any—morning." |
