WWOZ's annual Piano Night

After a power weekend of Jazz Fest, Piano Night 2011 blew everyone away, with some of our favorite pianists, old and new. With a mix of flag bearers like Dr. Lonnie Smith, Henry Gray and Carol Fran, and young luminaries Marco Benevento, Nigel Hall and singer Sasha Masakowski, it was everything "piano" under the sun.

It's sweet, tart, icy-cold, and a blazing shade of orange. On a hot day at Jazz Fest, there's nothing more refreshing. Jazz Fest is proud and honored to host the icons of Haitian music and culture including Wyclef Jean, Tabou Combo, RAM, Boukman Eksperyans, Emeline Michel, Djakout #1, DJA-Rara and Ti-Coca & Wanga Négès.

This year, WWOZ invited a group of producers from the Association of Independents in Radio (AIR), ranging from across the country to be our guests at Jazz Fest. Collecting both artist and audience member interviews, they were able to get a first hand look at all of the excitement! Some of their work is was posted on NPR Music's Blog Supreme.

The 4th annual Sync Up conference brought together innovators from across the entertainment industry. Topics included international music festivals, music licensing, and using new technologies to promote and sell independent music.
