Upcoming Shows
On Friday, August 13, WWOZ will broadcast singer Margie Perez live from The Maison on Frenchmen Street. The broadcast is sponsored by LetsBeTotallyClear.org, so the show will be totally smoke-free, providing a healthy environment for the musicians, staff and audience.
Margie Perez is one of the busiest performers in New Orleans, blending funk, blues, pop, and world music influences into a unique musical gumbo. In addition to working with her own band at festivals and clubs, she sings with Seguenon Kone's Fatien Ensemble, Smoky Greenwell & the Blues Gnus, Michael Skinkus & Moyuba, and psychedelic party band The Ibervillians.
The transplanted Washington DC native has performed with Allen Toussaint, Marva Wright, and many more New Orleans legends. In 2008, Margie represented New Orleans in a prime-time speech on the opening night of the Democratic National Convention. Her latest CD, "Singing For My Supper", is available on Threadhead Records, a non-profit label dedicated to funding projects by New Orleans musicians.
