Born in the midst of a violent, decade-long civil war, the Sierra Leone Refugee All-Stars have found a place of refuge through music, a sense of purpose and a source of power. The band has seen the worst that this world can offer — yet through their unflinching spirit and joyful sound they celebrate the best in all of us.
On Wednesday, July 15, we'll be broadcasting the Sierra Leone Refugee All-Stars live from our WWOZ performance studio from noon to 1 p.m., during the New Orleans Music Show with George Ingmire.
The broadcast is part of our 'OZ Vibes series, generously sponsored by The Transportation Revolution — the Home of Ducati, Triumph & Vespa in New Orleans. Tune in and don't miss this spirited fusion of traditional West African music, roots reggae and rhythmic traditional folk, which was featured in the film Blood Diamond starring Leonardo DiCaprio!
The group will also play a live show at Blue Nile on Frenchmen Street on Saturday, July 18, at 10 p.m.
