12-4pm | The Dinerral Shavers Educational Fund (DSEF) is proud to announce its 2025 Back to School Extravaganza, a free community celebration providing school supplies, health services, and family fun for New Orleans students of all ages. 

This year’s Extravaganza will feature live performances by the Hot 8 Brass Band, the Youth Empowerment Project’s Drumline and Dance Team, Walter Fair of the Young Seminole Hunters Mardi Gras Indians, the Zulu Tramps, and more. 

Families can enjoy an afternoon filled with resources and entertainment, including: free school supplies for students, health and dental screenings provided by local partners, haircuts/hairstyles/manicures for youth, community resource vendors and giveaways, arts & crafts, a gaming truck, snowballs, and more! 

Founded in 2007 in memory of educator, musician, and entrepreneur Dinerral Shavers, DSEF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to youth empowerment, community development, and expanding educational opportunities in New Orleans. In addition to the Back to School Extravaganza, DSEF leads impactful programs such as Operation Giveback, the Music & Cultural Education Program, and the GIRLS NOLA Initiative.
