'5 things to know' is a weekly feature highlighting different parts of the WWOZ world that you may have missed this week, including unique WWOZ programming and video, plus New Orleans events, artists, releases, places, features, and more.

For the week ending February 19, 2016:

1. The WWOZ video team was out on the streets of New Orleans for Mardi Gras 2016. See their Mardi Gras Diary here, or watch a few highlights below.

2. Jimmy Glickman, owner of the New Orleans Music Exchange and huge supporter of New Orleans musicians, passed away at the age of 52 in January. On Saturday, February 20, Tipitina's is hosting a celebration of his life with performances from Ivan Neville, George Porter Jr. and Tony Hall, Walter “Wolfman” Washington & the Roadmasters, Johny Mooney & Marc Stone, Da Wright Way Brass Band, and Mem Shannon and the Membership. The Hot 8 Brass band, Young Pinstripe Brass Band, and Soul Brass Band will lead a second line that will end back at Tip's where the Landry-Walker High School Marching Band will then play. The event is free and open to all ages.

3. The Jazz & Heritage Foundation is hosting a film festival this weekend, 'Retroperspective,' covering topics ranging from Louisiana politics to New Orleans street culture to impending environmental catastrophe. The films being screened offer unique perspectives on our community, often viewed through the prism of history. Films include Ruthie the Duck Girl, The Ends of the Earth: Plaquemines Parish, and Louisiana Boys: Raised on Politics.

4. The CTC Steppers ("Cross The Canal") are hosting their annual Second Line parade this Sunday at noon. This is the only Social Aid & Pleasure Club based in the Lower 9th Ward. They will parade through the Lower and Upper 9th. Hear Action Jackson's interview with the club's president, Andrew Johnson, and see the full route sheet at our Takin' It To The Streets page.

5. This week's new music spotlight landed on the Smoking Time Jazz Club with their eighth traditional jazz release in five years, Make a Tadpole Holler Whale. They're celebrating with a CD release party at the Allways this Sunday at 9p.
