This week's edition of The '50s R&B Show will spotlight the life and career of soul legend Joe Simon, featuring a brand new interview with the man himself! Simon, a native of Simmesport, Louisiana, started his recording career on the West Coast in the late '50s with the Echo Tones (aka Golden Tones) vocal group. Over the course of the next two decades, he would score nearly 50 R&B and pop hits, including "My Adorable One," "Let's Do It Over," "Nine Pound Steel," "The Chokin' Kind," "Drowning In the Sea of Love," "Power of Love," "Theme From Cleopatra Jones" and "Get Down, Get Down (On the Floor)."

During my recent interview with Joe, we run the musical gamut of his career, from his rough beginnings picking cotton and living in a chicken coop to his career pinnacles, which include scoring three gold records and a Grammy. Since turning away from R&B for good over 30 years ago, Bishop Joe Simon has dedicated his life to his work as an evangelist. He currently has a new autobiography on the market titled Don't Give Up -- You Can Make It If You Try -- You Can Win.

The Bishop's engaging conversation will be complemented by a healthy helping of his classic recordings -- some of the most soulful ever put down on wax.

Hear it Tuesday, March 2, 7-10pm on WWOZ! It will also be available afterwards on our 2-week archive.
