Pianist Jorge Luis Pacheco, part of the next generation of contemporary Cuban jazz musicians coming out of Havana, will be in New Orleans on Friday.

“Pachequito” and his trio make their formal New Orleans debut during this visit, but he’s been a friend of the station for a while (the last time he came by, he sat at the piano and played on air impromtu).  He’s classically trained, and also combines playful touches of popular music in his compositions.   He’s currently working on a CD, tentatively titled “Pacheco’s Blue,” which is being produced by Chucho Valdes.   He’ll be joined by drummer and percussionist Ivan Llanes Montejo and bassist Carlos Mena, two young Cuban musicians living in New York City.

So, your Friday evening is now complete.  You’re welcome!

Who:  Cuban jazz pianist Jorge Luis Pacheco and his Trio.

When: Friday, September 20, at 8 and 10 pm

Where: Snug Harbor, 626 Frenchmen St.
