This Thursday, June 6, Hillel at Tulane University is hosting a panel discussion entitled "Does Progress Destroy Culture?", which will tackle questions regarding how gentrification and urban and economic development impacts New Orleans culture.  For all the event details, go here.

Speakers include Shamarr Allen, Ellis Marsalis, and several others, including Richard Campanella, a geographer at the Tulane School of Architecture and author of six books on the physical and human geography of New Orleans.

Campanella recently published an article entitled "Gentrification and Its Discontents: Notes from New Orleans", in which he outlines the patterns of gentrification, providing excellent context for understanding its effects on culture bearers.
