Pura Fe is a contemporary Native American musician whose music is impossible to categorize. "People don't know how to market me," Pura told Karen Cristian today on the Allison Miner Music Heritage Stage, "they have a hard time putting me in the box, but they decided on Blues."

Her mother was an opera singer who toured with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, one example of the many seemingly incongruent eclectic influences on Pura's music.

Today Pura sang with her lap guitar, and also awed the audience by singing a chants into the looping machine, each round building into powerful chorus.

Pura played in the Blues tent on Thursday, but will be back in the Cultural Exchange Pavillion on Saturday at 3:10, and on Sunday at 2:40.
