The Marcus Roberts Trio, along with Béla Fleck, brought the sounds of New Orleans jazz to the mountains of Colorado yesterday at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.

Marcus Roberts, Rodney Jordan and Jason Marsalis mixed Jazz and Bluegrass with the premium banjo player Béla Fleck as they showcased their recent CD release, Across The Imaginary Divide.

Béla Fleck has a total count of 14 Grammys won, and 30 nominations, and has been nominated for the award in the greatest number of different categories than anyone in Grammy history.

Marcus Roberts is well known for his signature mix of blues, and ragtime mixed with New Orleans and Harlem style jazz.

Jason Marsalis is the youngest son of pianist Ellis Marsalis. He started playing drums at the early age of just three, and began studying with James Black at the equally tender age of six, graduating from NOCCA before studying music at Loyola University in New Orleans.

Memphis native Rodney Jordan joined the trio in 2009, and is widely thought of as one of the most versatile, rich and soulful bass player working today.

As a trio they are well known for their virtuosity and creativity, and their passion for forging   new directions in traditional jazz.

One thing is for sure, the bluegrass crowd was anything but blue after a ol' good dose of high altitude jazz.
