A lot of big names in New Orleans music will be sharing the stage tonight as the Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation hosts La Fête Cultural 2010. Artists include Terrence Simien & Zydeco Experience, Tab Benoit's Swampland Jam, Cyrill Neville, and the Shannon Powell. It's all emceed by Sex & the City's Mario Cantone - other celeb guests include Michael Cerveris and Fatih Ford.
The LCEF was established in response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, with the goal of supporting and enhancing the cultural industries that are so important to the Louisiana economy. The Fête Cultural marks the 5th anniversary of the LCEF's founding, and is intended to help the community recover in the wake of the devastating gulf oil spill - with a particular emphasis on those industries that have been directly affected.
Food will be provided by K-Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen, Herbsaint, Chef Patrick Mould, Chef Carolyn Shelton, and Whole Foods.
The LCEF does good things for the state, like sponsoring free healthcare screenings. A successful Fête could raise a lot of money to help the most needy cultural workers in Louisiana.
The Fête will take place at the Contemporary Arts Center Warehouse. For more information, including a complete lineup of artists, visit http://culturaleconomy.org/lafete/
I'll be back soon with a wrap-up of the event!
