This Thursday Jason Moran, fabulous pianist and composer extraordinaire, will stop by the studio before going on to Snug Harbor for his appearance with the brilliant Herlin Riley. This young Houston native now resides in Brooklyn and has played with Cassandra Wilson, Steve Coleman, Greg Osby, Stefan Harris, Charles Lloyd and many more Jazz greats. Moran's debut album “Soundtrack to Human Motion” appeared in 1999 to critical acclaim, as did “Facing Left” which followed a year later. Since that time, Moran has released several ground breaking albums including “The Bandwagon” in 2003 and “Artist In Residence” in 2006. His latest release “Lost in a Dream” is due out within a week and features Paul Motian (percussion) and Chris Potter (reeds). Jason Moran is a remarkable pianist who can nail a Thelonious Monk standard or be off the hinges with his own compositions.

Bob Scott:
Drummer Bob from Berkeley checking in. Herlin is one of my favorite drummers. I reference him in my "history of jazz drumming" presentation. I will do this at a big Mardi Gras Bash in Livermore this Friday night. M G is catching on some in the bay area.

Ziggaboo has moved back here and is gigging locally, and the Treme Brass Band was brought to Berkeley to celebrate Arhoolie Records 50th anniversary.
My Gumbowest band will do a big fat tuesday gig in Martinez next week. NOLA by the bay , a little more each year.
I will be at the FQ Jazz Fest. Need anything from Berkeley ?
